A Letter to Our Supporters: Help Us Uplift Black Writers
Dear Friends,
This year, the Hurston/Wright Foundation celebrates a remarkable milestone—35 years of unwavering commitment to Black writers and their stories.
Since 1990, we’ve honored the legacy of literary giants like Zora Neale Hurston and Richard Wright by mentoring emerging talent, providing safe and empowering spaces for creative growth, and amplifying the voices that shape our cultural and historical narrative. We’ve witnessed thousands of Black writers find their voice, build their craft, and change the world—one story at a time.
But we can’t do this work without you.
As we launch our **2025 campaign—35 Years and Counting; Uplifting Black Writers!—** we ask you to stand with us in the fight for creative freedom and literary justice.
In celebration of its 35th year, the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation is pleased to announce that its annual Legacy Awards will be renamed the Zora Awards – or the Zoras – as an ongoing tribute to the everlasting legacy of Zora Neale Hurston and her impact on both Black authors and American arts and letters.
We’re thrilled to announce that a generous benefactor has pledged to match all donations—dollar for dollar—up to $25,000 over the next three weeks! That means every gift you give will go twice as far to support our mission.
Help us unlock the full $25,000 match and make an even greater difference. Give today, and double your impact!
At a time when censorship is on the rise and the arts are under threat, your support is more than generous—it’s essential. Your donation enables us to:
Provide transformative workshops and writing intensives
Expand mentorship opportunities for emerging and mid-career writers
Offer publishing support and visibility for underrepresented voices
Serve as a sanctuary for truth, expression, and imagination
When you give, you’re not just supporting an organization. You’re investing in a movement.
You’re telling the world that Black stories matter. That truth matters. That every writer deserves a place to grow, to be heard, and to thrive.
We invite you to be part of our legacy and our future. Let’s ensure that the next generation of Black writers continues to rise, inspire, and transform the world through the power of storytelling.
Donate today and be the ink behind the revolution.
With deep gratitude,
The Hurston/Wright Foundation
