GIVING TUESDAY
In 1990, acclaimed writer and educator Marita Golden co-founded the Zora Neale Hurston / Richard Wright Foundation with $750 of her own money. She did what the best of Black philanthropists do: Give what you can to lift our community.
On November 29, 2022, the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation (Hurston/Wright) is participating in Giving Tuesday and we need your help!
Giving Tuesday is a global fundraising movement that began 10 years ago to activate radical generosity among everyday people. Since its start, millions of people have celebrated radical generosity by contributing to the mission-driven organizations that do the work that they support.
Hurston/Wright is a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that offers intensive and culturally competent writing programs that help Black writers build writing skills, navigate the publishing industry and devote quality time to producing work as professional writers.
Our Giving Tuesday goal is to raise $5000. The funds will provide scholarships to assist with tuition for a select number of writers who would like to attend our writing retreats but financial barriers make it a challenge to do so.
We believe that Black writers thrive when they have dedicated spaces where they can hone their craft, release their stories, and build community. Will you support our mission today?
