Readings by former members of the Hilltop newspaper Zora co-founded at Howard University in 1924.
Brandi Forte is a highly respected and published author of three books: “Drama Girl: The Diary of a Sista Poet,” "Half Chicken Half Scholar," and "Free." As the founder and Executive Director of Amala Lives, a community based organization and Destined for Greatness LLC, she is taking her leadership role as a way to inspire others to take their destiny to the next level.
Marcus Matthews is head of Audience Development for ESPN’s The Undefeated. He’s a DMV native, Howard Bison alum and prefers the Lakers over the Bullets/Wizards but still #HTTR all day though! He has worked in radio, at newspapers, local TV and at the network level and spends his professional time now in the digital and social spaces.
Maya Rhodan is a D.C.-based staff writer for TIME. She also contributes to ESSENCE and FORTUNE magazines. As a political reporter, Maya has covered the White House, the Supreme Court, Congress, and policy related to retirement savings, the intelligence community, criminal justice, and race-relations. She currently covers Congress and immigration policy.
Ayesha Rascoe is a White House Correspondent for Reuters. She covered President Barack Obama’s final year in office and is currently chronicling the Trump White House. A Howard University graduate, Ayesha began her tenure with Reuters in 2007. She has been a featured panelist on MSNBC shows, including Hardball and AM Joy, NPR's Here & Now program, and CTV News Channel.
Zerline Hughes Spruill joined the Advancement Project as Managing Director of Communications in 2017. She leads the organization’s communications team in an effort to effectively shift the narrative on racial justice issues, coordinate organizational branding, and manage content production. A former newspaper reporter and copy editor, Zerline’s writings have been featured in publications including the Los Angeles Times, Ebony Magazine, the Boston Globe, the Washington Post, and USA Today.
After nearly a decade long stint as a journalist at the Wall Street Journal, covering Silicon Valley technology firms and later Pacific Northwest regional economics, Bobby launched a boutique communications consultancy advising San Francisco and Washington DC based startups and medium sized businesses. A proud graduate of Howard University’s School of Communications and the University of Maryland’s Phillip Merrill College of Journalism Bobby enjoys downtime with his wife and two knuckleheads , Oops, darling children.
